you know i watched a LOT of x-men cartoons when i was younger (the 90s cartoon always had lots of reruns and i watched x-men evolution later on) and i read some of the earlier (more child-friendly) comics

but once when one of my uncles was staying with us (the stay-at-home doctor/writer uncle who loves comic books), he brought home a copy of x-men: age of apocalypse from the library

and i thought “oh x-men! i love x-men! the art style is different but i think i recognize all the characters! yay!”

then kurt died on like the third page and apparently rogue and magneto were a child-bearing thing and professor xavier was very very dead and EVERY CHARACTER IS EITHER MARRIED TO SOMEONE I DIDN’T THINK THEY WOULD BE MARRIED TO OR VERY VERY DEAD AND THERE WAS LIKE BLOOD AND GUTS AND GORE AND DEATH AND GROSSNESS 

and i shut the book
