But if of ships I now should sing, what ship would come to me? What ship would bear me ever back across so wide a Sea?
「 sea air 」

i’m going to sound like a butthole but i can’t help but find a lot of the sentiment in this music video by mary lambert rather dumb

the first minute and a half is just?? dedicated to complaining that women are “FORCED” to “be untrue to themselves” by “STRIVING FOR BEAUTY” and that this is an “OBSESSION WITH DEATH” and that “YOU JUST WANT TO LOOK PRETTY ENOUGH FOR OTHER PEOPLE”

excuse me

the reason i spend many hours on my hair, why i enjoy the primness of my wardrobe, why i exfoliate and paint my nails and put on copious amounts of lip balm is NOT FOR SOMEONE ELSE

I AM SELFISH

I LIKE TO MAKE MYSELF PRETTY FOR MY OWN PURPOSES AND NOT FOR ANYONE ELSE

i like to work out and be fit FOR MYSELF

i like to look like a princess FOR MYSELF

and i can guarantee that nearly every person who likes to fussy themselves up whether it be with fastidious hairdos like me or with a full face of makeup does it FOR THEMSELVES and NOT FOR ANYONE ELSE’S IMPROVEMENT

HOW IS WANTING TO LOOK PRETTY OBSESSED WITH DEATH

i want to look PRESENTABLE so i don’t appear in front of other people like a slob who doesn’t care, but i want to look PRETTY solely FOR MYSELF

i am not trying to impress anyone except for me and i think that’s a HUGE problem with a lot of the self-love feminist movement

yes you should appreciate your body and love and accept it

but that doesn’t mean it’s apparently wrong?? to pamper yourself?? to make yourself look like a princess??? to want to be impressive especially to yourself??

just the idea that stereotypical “feminine” pursuits of time such as doing hair or makeup or wardrobe are geared towards impressing men is internalized misogyny at its finest
